What degree options are there in S+DP?

The Sustainability + Development Program has several degree options, as well as specializations.

Undergraduates have two options: a Minor in Global Development, or an Accelerated Pathway to an MA S+DP.

Graduate students have two options: MA in Sustainability + Development that allows specializations in Environmental Justice, Sustainable Management, Climate-Smart Inclusive Economic Development, or Global Sustainable Design & Development, or there is an MSc in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a specialization in Sustainability + Development.

Do you have to pick your concentration right away?

The MA S+D Program is set up to allow you to grow and build your degree as you progress through the curriculum. The base of 3 core classes give you insight into the general themes and content of the program; students select their pathway after 9 credit hours from variety of electives and multidisciplinary courses.

 

What educational disciplines and backgrounds are required?

As an interdisciplinary program, we have students and alumni from multiple disciplines and backgrounds. Past students include about 30% engineers, 15% architecture and planning, and others from education, government, policy, geography, health, development and finance, sociology, anthropology, landscape, and art. Whether you are pursuing the MA S+D degree to initiate a career change or build your sustainability skills, essential admission requirements include self-directed specific interest areas, and a passion for sustainable learning.

How long are the degree programs?

Programs vary in length depending on personal preference of pace. The MA S+D Program can be completed in 16 months for a full time student, or several years for a working professional with limited hours.

What kind of jobs can you get with this advanced degree?

We have alumni all over the professional map! Students end up working with consulting firms, city and government, design and planning, engineering companies, GIS teams, design studios, and in further education towards PhD!

Do you offer distance learning?

Yes, both distance and flex learning are offered.
